Highlights
from the 2007
ADGA National Show in Gillette, Wyoming |
|
|
The
2007 ADGA National Show in Gillette, Wyoming proved to
be quite an exciting week for us when GCH Lakeshore
Farms Julie's Jaguar 3*M EX92 (EEEE) brought home the title of Reserve National Champion
and Reserve Best Udder at the age of six. Jaguar
has been very consistent at the past National Shows, being 2nd
place in her individual class for five consecutive years. In
other class placings, we had the 1st place Best 3
Females, 1st place Dairy Herd, 1st place Produce of Dam
and 1st place Dam & Daughter. To conclude the week,
we were also named the Premier Nubian Breeder and
Exhibitor for the 5th consecutive year! |

2007 Linear Appraisal
Highlights |
In June 2007, our herd was once again linear appraised, and we were
very pleased with the results. A total of 11 mature animals (9 does, 2
bucks) and 1 dry stock doe were appraised, giving us a herd average
score of 88.8! The highlight of the day was having, CH
Lakeshore Farms Summer Storm (pictured at left, 4 years) receive a
score of EX92 (EEEE) ... something that we felt was quite an
accomplishment, beings that we nearly lost her in the fall of 2005 to
a deadly form of mastitis. She was a real trooper and continues to WOW
us everyday with her overall style, correctness and attitude to go
with it. Other highlights include: CH L/F
Tanqueray 3-03 EX91 (VVEE); LakeShore Ace
Sierra Vista 2-02 EX91 (EEEE); *B L/F E
Excalade 4-03 EX90 (EEE); LakeShore EXC
Jordyn 2-04 EX90 (EVVE). Our two year-olds scores ranged from VG89
to EX91, and our yearlings were from GP84 to VG87.

Our chosen herd name of Lakeshore Farms that you will see contained in our animals names was registered with ADGA in the spring of 1992, shortly after acquiring our first dairy goats. This name was symbolic to us as our farm is located along the “Lakeshore” of the largest natural lake in the State of California, Clear Lake. When visitors come to the farm, they quickly see the beautiful shores of Clear Lake and know exactly where our herd name was derived from.
|
|
After using the Lakeshore Farms name for the past thirteen
years, we decided to make a modification in the spring of 2005 to simply LakeShore. With the need for extra spaces and letters for goats’ names, it was agreed that Farms could be removed. We had also learned that many people were already referring to us as LakeShore, so we made the change official. The first animal to bear this new name is *B LakeShore Full Throttle, our 2005 junior herd sire... |

The Story Behind
the LakeShore Herd |
|
As with most herds there is usually a story behind their beginnings that is unique to them, but one that is also quite familiar to many others. Our story at LakeShore is similar to most in that what started many years ago in the spring of 1990 as a young girls 4-H project has evolved into a labor of love, which now includes the whole family.
It all began when I attended a fair with my cousins who were showing swine and happened to visit the goat barns, where I fell in love with a baby Nubian that was joyfully playing on top of his grand dam. That baby goat, Jangles, quickly became my 4-H market goat project and would go on to win Reserve Champion at the local fair that fall. Soon after selling him at the fair auction, I realized just how much the goats meant to me and later purchased four does and a buck to start a herd of my own.
Over the past
sixteen years, what used to be a 4-H project has transformed itself into a family venture bringing us much joy, opportunity and togetherness. Our goal has been to produce well-balanced animals that show, milk and reproduce. Through the years we have worked with several different bloodlines to develop our own style of Nubians, ones that enable us to achieve our goals. On average our herd consists of around thirty animals that compete on both a local and national level each year. We are very pleased with the type of animals that we are breeding and are proud and confident to offer them for sale to our fellow Nubian breeders. |
